We've All Heard Some Variation of this from White Evangelicals One of the worst things about American evangelical Christianity has got to be the Christian persecution complex. It is projection to the max. And you know what else, it's absolutely bullshit. Ultimately what White evangelicals are bitching about is not being able to act like a bigoted jackass without being called on it. And conversations usually play out like this: "They're trying to oppress our freedom of religion" "So someone tried to stop you from going to church on Sunday?" "Well, um, no" "So someone said you aren't allowed to worship Jesus anymore?" "N-no" "So someone said you can't wear a cross necklace anymore?" "...no..." "So someone said you can't call yourself a Christian anymore?" "I mean...um...n-no" "So someone said you have to convert to a different religion, you know, kind of like what happened to indigenous peoples of the Americas and Pacific islands when Christian missionaries showed up?" "..." "Did anyone try to force you off your land because you're a Christian just like what happened to the Cherokees in the Trail of Tears?" "...um..." "Have you ever been shot by a cop for being a Christian like how Black people get shot by cops like it's target practice and ONLY because they're black?" "Well-" "Has anyone ever told you that you're going to suffer eternal punishment in the afterlife for being a Christian, similar to how LGBT kids are traumatized by their Christian parents with the threat of Hell for simply existing?" "No" "Do you experience a higher rate of violence than everyone else for being a Christian just like how transgender and nonbinary people experience higher rates of violence for being transgender or nonbinary?" "I mean...um...n-no" "Has anyone held you captive in your church as a hostage like what happened to Jewish people in Colleyville, Texas in their synagogue?" "Well, um, no" "Is there a history of people making up conspiracy theories about Christians secretly running the media like how Jewish people have had antisemitic conspiracies spread about them secretly running the media?" "...no..." "Have you ever been frisked by a cop for being a Christian like how Black people and Latinos get frisked entirely because of their skin color?" "Well, uh-" "Are people constantly fetishizing you for your faith and asking to touch your hair like what happens to Black people?" "N-no" "Did your parents send you to conversion therapy for being a Christian just like how Christians send their queer kids to conversion therapy to force them to be straight and cisgender?" "..." "Were innocent Christians demonized for the actions of a few in the 9/11 attacks just like how innocent Muslim children were demonized and harassed for the actions of a few after the 9/11 attacks?" "Well-" "Are there politicians like Donald Trump who want to ban Christians from entering the country just because they're Christians just like how he wanted to ban Muslims from entering the country just because they're Muslims?" "I mean...um...n-no" "Is there any state legislature that's trying to gerrymander and restrict Christians from voting just like how they're trying to gerrymander and restrict Black people and Latinos from voting?" "No" "Are people driving you to suicide for your faith just like how Christians drive queer people to suicide?" "..." "Is half the country blaming Christians for Covid-19 like how they're blaming Asians for it?" "...um..." "Has there been an effort to restrict your reproductive rights because you're a Christian just like how women are having they're reproductive rights taken because men want to make women be submissive?" "Well, um, no" So then what is the problem? The answer to this is quite simple, they think they're oppressed because they can't turn the United States into a theocracy. White evangelicals want this country to become the "Christian Nation" they think it is because they can't stand the thought of not having absolute power over everyone who isn't a White, straight, cisgender evangelical Christian man. How fucking privileged do you have to be that you literally have to make up things to complain about? And on top of all this these are the same people who claim that having to wear a mask is the equivalent of Nazi Germany. Putting aside the fact this comparison is terribly antisemitic they're also unknowingly using propaganda straight from the Nazis to spread their anti-science bullshit; "accuse the other side of which you are guilty" and how propaganda must be simple to understand (even for the scientifically illiterate). As a side note I would like to say how pissed off it makes me that anti-vaxxers have ruined the terms "research" and "free thought." These are the same motherfuckers who stormed the capitol, accomplished nothing except getting a few people killed, and then went home when it got dark. And then threatened to do it again at Biden's inauguration but stayed home with their tales tucked between their legs because the national guard was there. So instead they just sat at home and cleaned their guns to make themselves feel like less of a bitch. They're doing all this stupid bullshit so they can turn America into a theocracy and for what!? FOR FUCKING WHAT!? IS IT THAT BLACK PEOPLE CAN VOTE!? IS IT POOR PEOPLE FINALLY GETTING THE HEALTHCARE THEY NEED!? IS THAT IT!? IS THAT YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM!? THAT YOU CAN'T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST QUEER PEOPLE ANYMORE!? THAT WOMEN AREN'T YOUR FUCKING PROPERTY ANYMORE!? IS THAT YOUR GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING PROBLEM!? JUST FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! You bigoted christo-fascist jackasses say you "want your country back," well, you know what, I want MY country back. White evangelism will be the death of the United States. When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
